I live in Rockvill, Maryland.

I’ve been looking to lease luxurious SUVs and just found this special offer at one of BMW dealerships website in my area.

It says:

[just Announced Special !
Lease for $479
or
Finance at 2.9%

2009 BMW X5 Twin Turbo Diesel with Panarama Roof, Heated Seats, Keyless Entry and BMW Ultimate Service.

* Stock# 138006. Terms: 36 months/10,000 miles per year. Lease requires $3500 plus 1st payment, refunddable security deposit, tax, tags and acquisition fee. BMW Conquest lease cash already used in lease calculation. On approved credit through BMWFS. Vehicle shown is not actual vehicle. Offer ends June 30,2009. Subject to prior sale. Must qualify for lease or finance through BMWFS.]

Does this sound reasonable? Can I still negotiate about the downpayment and monthly payment even though it is a special offer?

BMW Group recorded its highest sales in the GCC countries with a 14 percent raise over 2006. Similar growth in sales was mirrored in overall Middle East sales with a six percent raise. Such growth inked a record of 15,150 BMW and MINI sales across the region.

Compared to 11,250 sales in 2006, the GCC inked 12,782 sales in 2007 while the Middle East in total accounted for 15,150 units in comparison to 14,332 units in 2006, reported AME Info.

The increase in sales was attributed largely to Abu Dhabi Motors, the exclusive importer for Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, with a 36 percent raise from 1,890 units to 2,561. AGMC, the exclusive importer for Dubai and the Northern Emirates, garnered the highest overall sales for the automaker with 3,594 vehicles delivered.

“The Middle East is a region of great opportunity and potential for BMW Group, as exhibited by the extremely healthy growth of nearly all of the markets over the past few years,” said Phil Horton, Managing Director, BMW Group Middle East. “Despite some regional challenges, we have been able to record a noteworthy growth, and we remain optimistic that this growth will continue for at least the next three years to come.”

Following Abu Dhabi, other GCC top markets include Qatar and Kuwait with 25 percent and 24 percent year-on-year growth respectively. Syria, meanwhile, recorded the highest increase in the Levant markets with 22 percent raise. In 2007, the said market reported a notable 94 percent raise.

“The growth that we have witnessed last year is sure to continue into 2008 and 2009 with the introduction of several important new products, including the all-new BMW X6, the first Sports Activity Coupe for the premium luxury market, and at the end of this year the introduction of the brand new 7 Series,” added Horton. “We also have several new models in the range that will further strengthen our position in the region such as the new BMW M3 Sedan, the new 1 Series Convertible and Coupe, and the much awaited MINI Clubman.”

In 2007, the Middle East unit of the maker of BMW 325is radiator introduced fresh models that contributed significantly to the inking of record high. New models include the X5 Sports Activity Vehicle, 3 Series Convertible, MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S. To note, MINI recorded a surge of 29 percent in sales following the debut of its new model in April last year. From 475 units sold in 2006, the figure rose to 612 last year.

I have heard good things about Audi longevity, many can last until 100k miles.
What about Dodge? I am planning to buy either a used Audi or Dodge Magnum, but will a Dodge hold up well past the 50,000 mile point? I have also heard that the Dodge Durango is bad for longevity but that is a SUV unlike the sedan Dodge Magnum.

I have an ‘09 3 series, and I’m wondering if anyone else is having an issue with the run flats that BMW insists on putting on the new models of its cars. I found out about the problems with these tires only after buying the car, and I see from a google search that there’s an endless number of bimmer owners out there who are are PO’d about these tires. I was very surprised to find out how quickly the tires wear, that they cannot be repaired, how outrageously expensive they are to replace compared to regular tires, and how difficult they are to get if you get a flat anywhere outside a major metro area (since many tire shops do not carry them, you would have to remain stranded until whenever the BMW roadside assist people show up to replace it. I do a lot of cross country driving, and do not feel confident driving hundreds of miles out in the middle of nowhere in a car without a spare. Again, the BMW sales people did not mention any of these things when I was buying the car but I guess it was my fault for not doing enough research.

I find the tires to be rough and noisy. I was suckered by the dealer into buying the tire warranty but lately I’ve been thinking about removing these run flats and replacing them with regular tires. I see that many people have done this. The only thing is that I would have to buy the jack and donut spare kit (which isn’t cheap, but far cheaper than replacing a set of run flats when they wear out). Also the 3 series does not have any room in the trunk even for a donut, so I’m not so sure about having the spare bouncing around in there. Most things about the car I love, but I think that BMW made a big mistake with these tires. BMW customers have been complaining about them for years, and the company isn’t interested in doing anything about them. I guess they’re busy counting all that money they’re saving from not having to put a jack or spare tire in every new car.

I’ll be trading in this car in another year and a half, and I won’t ever buy another car that comes standard with run flats and that doesn’t come with a jack and a spare.

Any suggestions?
